Dalmatian Crested Geckos make good pets because they are unique, low-maintenance and relatively comfortable around humans. Like other geckos, the Dalmatian crested gecko is not very dangerous, but it can be small when handled.

If a gecko feels threatened, it may bite, which is startling, but it rarely hurts and does not cause bleeding. Still, Dalmatian Crested Geckos are impossible to bite in the first place due to their gentle temperaments. These reptiles make excellent pets for beginners and children.

Crested geckos come in many colors and markings, formally known as morphs. As you might have guessed, Dalmatian Crested Geckos have black and white spots, just like Dalmatians.

What's unique about these geckos is that they have a ridged crest that starts above their eyes, like eyelashes. The braid continues down the neck and back, although the exact length varies from jacket to jacket.

Tank

Choose a terrarium that is at least 20 gallons in size, although there is nothing wrong with choosing a larger tank. If you have three or two crested geckos, the terrarium needs to be gallons 29 in size. Make sure to keep one male only per tank.

Must have a tank with a secure lid. These geckos are expert climbers, and they can survive in a flat second. Provide branches, cork, bamboo and other items for the gecko to climb on.

You will need to clean this tank frequently to prevent any bacterial growth. We recommend cleaning the terrarium once a day and deep cleaning the terrarium with Reptile Safe Cleaners once a month.

Lighting

Crested geckos are nocturnal, which means they technically don't need special UV lighting. That being said, low-level UV lighting can help the health of reptiles. Always provide shelters so geckos can hide from light if they want.

Heat (temperature and humidity)

Heat is essential to keeping your crested gecko healthy. These creatures are cold-blooded, meaning they cannot regulate their own body temperature. For this reason, there must be a temperature gradient within the wall.

During the day, keep the temperature gradient between 72 degrees Fahrenheit and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. At night, drop this gradient to 65 degrees Fahrenheit and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Be sure to measure the temperature so that the temperature is recorded.

Humidity is also an factor important for your gecko. During the day, the humidity should be around 60 percent, but this humidity should rise to about 80 percent at night. You can increase humidity with regular misting, especially at night when geckos are more active.

Substrate

The substrate is what lines the bottom of the tank. We recommend choosing a substrate made of coconut fiber, moss, or peat moss. Newspaper and paper towels also work, although they are not as attractive. Do not use gravel, pebbles or sand.

Feeding Your Dalmatian Crested Gecko

Since Dalmatian crested geckos are nocturnal, you must feed them in the evening. Juveniles need to be fed every day, but adults should only be fed three times a week.

The easiest way to feed your gecko is to use a commercial food and occasionally use insects, roaches, waxworms and silkworms. It is important to choose gut-filled worms so that the gecko needs calcium and vitamin D3.
